Located just outside Spain, l’Ariège calls to all culture-loving travellers. Our starred campsites, with their luxury bungalows and mobile homes, are the starting point for visits to the many historic treasures in this region of Occitania. Among these wonders is the astonishing Niaux cave, dating from the Palaeolithic period. Rich in cave art, this jewel is of course a listed historic site. Hikers and cavers will be amazed at the numerous paintings that have remained intact, which they can observe on a guided tour. And for a supremely cultural holiday, our guests should head to the Prehistoric Park a few miles away from the campsite. This outdoor museum, suitable for both adults and children, showcases the way of life of the first humans.
After a rock climbing or watersports session, very popular in this region, our campers should head towards the Château de Foix and Château de Montségur. These castles, still standing proudly despite the passage of time, are Medieval jewels overlooking Foix and Montségur villages.
The ideal setting for an active camping holiday, Ariège also rewards its most energetic guests with local culinary specialities. Influenced by the nearby Languedoc and Gascony regions, Ariégois cuisine includes confit goose and duck, while its border with Spain has given rise to dishes like Aïgo Boullido.
The location of our luxury campsites in Ariège offers our visitors fairly cool summers interspersed with a few showers.
